New foundations
A new basement, slab, or crawl space starts with the excavation and the soil under the concrete. Steel reinforcement is placed from the drawings for that job. The concrete strength is the strength specified for that job, not one mix for every house. A vapor barrier goes under the slab before the pour. Waterproofing on a basement wall is part of the scope when the drawings call for it.
Crawl spaces in this climate need the ground covered. ABBA installs a vapor barrier over the soil. The space is vented, or it is sealed and conditioned, depending on the house. The goal is to keep the framing above the crawl space dry.
Repairs
A repair starts with what is moving. A crack, a sticking door, or a sloping floor is not enough to pick a method. The price is based on the cause: a leaking crack, soil pressure on a wall, or a footing that has settled.
- A crack that is not structural can be injected with epoxy or polyurethane to keep water out.
- A void under a slab or a footing can be filled so the soil stops dropping.
- Underpinning is used when the load has to be carried to deeper soil. The pier type is specified for that house. ABBA does not treat helical piles as a standard product on every job.
- Replacing a whole foundation, including lifting the house, is a separate scope. It is priced only when the existing foundation cannot be repaired.
ABBA pulls the building permit as a licensed contractor. A New Jersey engineer stamps the drawings only when that job requires a stamp.
FOOTINGS
Footings
A footing is the wide concrete base under a wall or a post. It spreads the weight of the house onto the soil. ABBA Construction Group installs footings for houses, additions, garages, decks, porches, and retaining walls in Atlantic County and Cape May County.

PILES AND DEEPER FOUNDATIONS
Piles and deeper foundations
Some lots in Atlantic County and Cape May County will not carry a house on a shallow footing. The soil near the surface may be fill, soft, or wet. ABBA Construction Group does not decide that from a visit. A soil report or the project drawings say when the load has to go deeper. ABBA is not a geotechnical firm.
When those drawings call for helical piles, the piles are part of the priced scope. A helical pile is a steel shaft with plates that is turned into the ground. It is used for that job only. It is not the footing on every house.
Piles are also used to underpin a footing that has settled, when the drawings specify that repair. Lifting or replacing a foundation is a separate scope.

HOW THE WORK IS PERMITTED
How the work is permitted
ABBA Construction Group is the contractor. A New Jersey engineer stamps the drawings only when that job requires a stamp. ABBA does not write the soil report and does not stamp the plans.
ABBA pulls the building permit for the foundation, footing, or pile scope. The town inspects the excavation and the reinforcement before the concrete is poured. Passing that inspection is the town’s decision.
The quote is a fixed price on a written scope. Residential workmanship carries a 2-year labor warranty. That is the warranty. There is not a separate 5-year structural warranty.
